Garage sales!

I must say, I have never really been one to do much garage saling (saleing? sale-ing?). The idea of rummaging through someone else's old stuff while they watch me, hoping I will like something and put a little change in their pockets (or in the case of furniture, wads of cash), it just makes me feel uncomfortable. Especially since a lot of the places I used to go we're trying to sell bits that probably belonged in the trash.
Here, people are having to move so often that they have to sell the bigger pieces that they own quickly so they can leave easily. Many times they sell these things for cheap (having likely gotten them that way as well) to get them out and get just a bit for them. Sometimes they are selling the things that they got cheaply because they got new things. In any case, the buyer benefits.
Today I benefited. Got a table with four
chairs, a washer and dryer, as well as a comfy chair for the living room for $100. Awesome. Very happy about that because it was all stuff we were needing! And the nice thing is that these people know where you are coming from and can sympathize with you.

Although, this could have a lot to do with the community that the air force fosters.

Swimming

Swimming is a great way to spend the afternoon, at least my little one thinks so! Can't talk very clearly, but "fimming" is a beloved one. Small family pools that aren't packed to the gills are the best and here on base it's just perfect. Some days I feel like I'm at a resort!
I know that's the "honeymoon" phase of living on base, but really, when you go from no home to call your own out in the country to a nice house in a pleasant GATED community, it's hard not to feel like its the lap of luxury. People often complain, but I honestly can't see why anyone would be anything but grateful for a beautiful home that is paid for.

Crazy as it may seem, I think this place is great! My little one has so many more opportunities an it's great to be so much closer to everything. Hope the bloom never falls off this rose.

First home meal

Today I cooked our first real meal in our new home (we moved here Saturday and have been living on frozen meals). It was SO good! It's been a long time since I've cooked or even had the ability to cook, so it was nice. Got a recipe for chicken tacos off pinterest, along with a recipe for tortillas and taco seasoning. An even though I had never made any of these things before, they turned out super yummy! We still don't have all of our kitchen items, thus mixing the tortilla dough in a pot, but it worked!
Also, the grimacing picture of my husband was when I told him to smile like it tasted good. He DID say that it was completely delicious though. :)

Today he leaves

My husband left today for BMT for the Air Force.  It was an odd parting, we didn't want to make a big show.  I had read nearly anything I could find on the subject (because thats what I do, I RESEARCH!) and I knew that a lot of things could make him miserable while he was there.  Well, EXTRA miserable, considering.  Everything said not to stand out in any way, so we bought him new clothes (just for him to get brand new clothes at the end of the week).  White t-shirts, and he took his khakis.  We will see if that helped or harmed him.

Things haven't sunk in yet.  They probably will later.  Our baby doesn't understand it, probably doesn't even realize he has left for a long time, as he worked most days.  I know that she will be excited to see him again, though.

I hope this doesn't make him mean.
